High Tunnel - Initial 24' x 92' Framing at Garden - Progress Photo - Fall 2004

Originally a garden plot for flowers, vegetables and herbs. Kerry is still
cutting zinnias in late Fall. Soil preparation for
the site began nearly two years earlier. Notice the sloping site has been preserved. All posts conservatively
concreted-in at 4'-0'' o.c. with all post tops cut to the same elevation.

Tubular framing, longitudinal and corner bracing, and wooden emergency
centerline support completed.
Notice the high tunnel roof-line is level although the site slopes in both
directions.

Notice the partially completed end-walls, in-ground insulation (blue at the
baseboard-level) and two
interior walkways.
Aluminum wiggle-wire track installed at baseboards and end-walls.
Buckwheat and cow pea cover crop and compost amendment in progress.

The end walls have been insulated with twin-wall polycarbonate panels. Each end
wall has an automatic window and two 4' x 8' doors.
The interior beds and walkways have been completed. Another buckwheat and cow
pea cover crop has been grown, cut and dug-in.
Electrical service completed - four lights and timer-controlled HAF fans (to be
installed). Other grow lights to be added as needed.

Notice the side- and end-wall, taped-poly treatment to drain and seal the building.
Blower fan for the
twin-wall poly and four HAF fans installed.
Ready for production - just transplant seedlings,
turn on timed drip irrigation, add
another interior bed poly-layer as needed.
