Photo-of-the-Season - FALL 2009 è WINTER 2010 - Growing Oats

These photos were taken on November 25, 2009 of the winter oats that were planted just before the heavy rains the week of November 9th. As you can see, germination was excellent. Ladino Clover remains as a nitrogen source and nursery crop for the Oats. Harvest of these Brooks Oats (NC State winter-hardy, hull-less cultivar) as Oat Hay will occur in late May/early June 2010. Other existing Orchard Grass fields were over-seeded as well this year to thicken the existing stands that were planted 2-3 years ago.
