2007-OCT > Tar River Land Conservancy (TRLC) Field Day

The Tar River Land Conservancy held its “Annual Field Day on the Farm” at Lynch Creek on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 11:30am-3:30pm. Over 100 members attended and were blessed with perfect weather. Music was performed by bluegrass artist Mark Miller (Wendell, NC).

 Dr. Raymond Stone (left photo) captivated the audience with a   short history of the Rocky Ford community and its past role in the economy of the region. Raymond’s family has habited the area since Revolutionary War times. Remnants of a mill and early roadways still exist today – wagon wheel tracks across the Lynch Creek bedrock from years of transit.

Executive Director Derek Halberg spoke of the specific accomplishments of the past year and projected an optimistic outlook for 2008.

Bob Radcliffe and Kerry Carter spoke about their history with the property, and their commitment to the preservation of the property as a farm into the future.

Board President Ernie Averett reiterated the importance of the TRLC Members to the future success of the organization.

After a picnic lunch catered by the Wildflower Cafe (Henderson, NC) the members could elect to participate in a 45 minute guided hike along Lynch Creek; a short guided tour of the Farm led by Bob Radcliffe; to view the antique quilts on display at the reconstructed Log Cabin provided by Debbie Lou Powell (Henderson, NC); to chat with Southern Living featured Artist Beth Smith (Franklin County); or to browse the Antique Showroom at Lynch Creek.
